Organization to Protect the Rights of Athletes

Many well-known scientific, public and sports figures expressed their desire to join a new public organization for the protection of the rights of athletes, created at the initiative of the International Union of Lawyers

Many members of the Coordination Council, as well as the heads and members of the Standing Commission on International Cooperation of our Union decided to become the new founders of the International Association for the Protection of Athletes' Rights ("International Athlete Rights Association”).

Nafziger James (USA) Professor of Willamette University (Oregon), Academician of the International Academy of Comparative Law, Advisor on International Law of the US Department of State was the first among the new founders who put his signature under the Charter of the Organization.

Wolohan John (USA) Professor at Syracuse University (New York), member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and Iriarte Angel José Luis (Spain), Professor of Private International Law at the State University of Navarra followed his decision. Head of the Representation of the International Union of Lawyers in the UK, Professor of the University of Stirling David McArdle (Great Britain) and Associate Professor of the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Teramo Giandomenico Anna (Italy) also decided to become the founders of the "International Athlete Rights Association” (IARA).

Tatyana Navka (Russia), the famous figure skater and athlete, also agreed to become the founder of a new organization and actively defend the rights of athletes. Tatiana Navka is the 2006 Olympic champion (Italy, Turin), two-time world champion, three-time European and Russian champion, holder of the Order of Friendship, producer and participant of ice musicals well-known in Russia and around the world.

Alexey Iglin (Russia), member of the Russian Association of International Law, professor at the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, editor-in-chief of the journals "Theory of Law and Interstate Relations" and "International Law and Process" like others made a firm decision to actively defend the rights of athletes in all countries of the world.

The International Association for the Protection of the Rights of Athletes was established on September 21, 2020 at the initiative of the International Union of Lawyers and the International Association for Sports Law, as well as our legendary athletes O.A. Brusnikina and I.A. Ter-Ovanesyan.

Anatoly Peskov, Deputy Chairman of the International Union of Lawyers, member of the Board of Directors of the International Sports Law Association (Greece) was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Athlete Rights Association (IARA).
